Tutorial - Latte Sprinkles

I've developed a latte addiction very recently and I average 2 homemade lattes a day. It's just so easy and satisfying! I have a particular obsession with tea lattes because there's just so many variations and options! I just love that fluffy cloud of frothy milk that sits on the top of my drink but I've felt like it's been lacking a bit of...decor. So today I'm going to show you how to make your own adorable latte sprinkles! Why do you need to DIY latte sprinkles? Simple. You cannot just throw full sized sprinkles on your lattes because it will fall right through your froth!

Here is what we're going to make; Toffee & Dark Chocolate sprinkles

My inspiration? I visited a DAVIDsTEA store and noticed these adorably packaged sprinkles and instantly wanted to make my own mix. They come in 75g bottles and cost $15.00 for 2 or $8.50 for one. They offer Chocolate Sugar Sprinkles as well as Golden Sugar Sprinkles (it grinds up gold flakes!). How do they work? Well, there's full-sized sprinkles in a grinder and it's as simple as that!

Here's what you will need:

-Small Grinder (must be refillable)
-Zip Lock Bag
-Dark Chocolate Chips
-Toffee Bits
-Gravy Boat
-Masking Tape
-Pencil Crayon (or any writing utensil)
-Adhesive Label

As you can see, I used a grinder that was prepackaged with peppercorn. It was cheaper than purchasing a grinder on its own. You just have to make sure that it has a removable lid. Step one, open the packaging of the pepper grinder then unscrew the lid.

Dump out contents, if applicable. If you are reusing a bottle - tap the lid to ensure there are no bits of salt or pepper left in the bottle. You may wash the bottle but you must make sure it is completely dry before refilling it.

For measurement purposes, fill half the bottle with dark chocolate chips.

Fill the rest of the bottle with toffee bits.

Pour the mix into your gravy boat and shake it around so that the bits are mixed well.

Pour the bits back into the grinder.

Peel off the original label. For best results, peel slowly and try not to rip the label.

Remove leftover glue with a piece of masking tape, if applicable.

Write on your adhesive label. I just went for "latte sprinkles" but you can be more creative.

Peel the sticker and place it on your new bottle of sprinkles.

Here you have it! A custom mix of sprinkles for yourself or your loved ones!

Your own mix of latte sprinkles!

Lets give it a try! Make a...boring latte.

Grind over your frothy milk.

Toffee & dark chocolate, it doesn't get better than this.

Your options are endless. Here's how to make a festive mix:

Here's what you will need:

-Small Grinder (must be refillable)
-2 Zip Lock Bags
-Dark Chocolate Chips
-Candy Cane
-Christmas Sprinkles
-Gravy Boat
-Masking Tape
-Pencil Crayon (or any writing utensil)
-Adhesive Label

*repeat steps mentioned above for emptying & labelling the grinder*

Place candy cane into zip lock back and use a solid object to crush the candy. Be careful if you choose to use the glass grinder as your hammer, like me. This can also get messy if your bag develops a hole. You may want to keep a vacuum handy.

Dump the candy cane bits into the grinder bottle.

Add Christmas Sprinkles to just over half way.

Top it off with the dark chocolate chips.

Pour all the sprinkles into your gravy boat and shake it up until everything is well mixed.

Pour the sprinkles back into the grinder bottle.

Here you have it! A holiday treat you can include in a latte themed gift basket!
