My Alexander Wang Rocco Duffel bag in Latte has seen better days. You'll see that a lot of areas became darkened from use, especially the satchel handle and the top part of the bag. There was also some wear on the piping, and though nothing was exposed yet, the leather was scratched and thinning.

The process of dyeing leather is pretty simple once you have the right tools. The dyes cost under $30 and this was the second bag I was able to use these materials on. Take a look at the before and after photos and if you want to learn how to do it yourself, check out our previous post with a video tutorial.

Some frequently asked questions:
Does the black dye transfer onto your clothes?
Nope! With daily use and a mix of dark and light clothes, no transfer at all from this purse or the last one.
Does the dye come off?
The first dye used is "penetrating dye" so it's dye that doesn't just sit on the surface of the leather.
Are there other colors of dye?
Both brands have a variety of colors! I have only tried black so I can't comment on how the other colors match or work.

I recommend the process for those who want to refresh a worn out bag and are willing to commit to a new color. The softened leather of the bag was getting a bit delicate and the dye definitely helped to stiffen it up a little bit and breathed a new life into it!

Every year we go to tons of summer music festivals and concerts. It combines our love of music, food and just lounging around with like-minded people.

Without fail, every year it will rain on at least one of the concert dates. Whether it's a small sprinkling or a crazy downpour, it happens. I think in my mind I assume that it won't be too bad to get a few drops of rain on my head. In reality though, the rain turns the ground into a mud pit and I'm instantly regretting my choice of impractical footwear.

(Silly me on the right)

(Smart Sam in her cute rain boots)

Three summers in a row, I dealt with muddy shoes and wet socks. This year I had made my final mistake and caved... I bought my first pair of Hunter rain boots.

I had put off the purchase for so long because the concept of cost per wear is so important to me. When thinking about how many times I could potentially wear rain boots in an average year I really couldn't think of more than once or twice a year.

Since buying them in August though, I've been able to wear them in the summer to a festival and then at least 10 times this fall through all the frequent rain storms. (Is every year this rainy in the fall? I can't remember)

The unexpected effect of buying these? Instead of feeling fearful that I'll be ruining a pair of shoes, I actually look forward to looking cute on rainy days! No regrets.
Within a calendar year it's not unusual to experience temperatures that feel as low as -40C to as high as 40C (that's -40 to 104 F!). For most people this means having completely seasonal wardrobes that require a storage rotation. Even though I remember my mom doing this for me when I was younger, I always wanted to access my summer wardrobe in the winter and vice versa. So my closet is stored in a way that I can access all of my clothing always (with a huge exception for my winter parka and snow boots).
The lucky thing about starting a blog with your sister is that there's really no room for growing apart with us. Things that will never change: our love of fashion, DIY and of course caffeine.

I chose The Fieldcrest in Black for the gorgeous sleek dark finish and Sam picked The Sully in Natural Green for the natural wood grain that stands out with lighter wood. The watches are really lightweight for their size and the wood picks up a bit of polish and character the longer you wear it.
You'll need:
- Marble Contact Paper
- Scissors
- Small hand towel
- Ikea Vittsjo or any table or surface you would like to marbleize
Instructions:
First build your furniture-- I'm using the Ikea Vittsjo Laptop Table, which has become a favourite for Ikea Hacks because of the simple minimal design.
Start by cleaning the surface you will be covering in contact paper. Wipe it with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

I'm using DC-fix contact paper and there's a great grid on the backing to make it easy to cut the paper to size. Because the Vittsjo has a removable glass top, I simply placed it on the unrolled paper and cut around it, leaving about an inch allowance along the edges. If you are doing this on a table surface that isn't so easily movable, you may need a tape measure.

After cutting the paper to size, peel one edge of the backing. Then lift the glass surface and gently place it over the sticky edge, leaving the 1 inch allowance.

Lift the edge of the contact paper and wrap it over the edge of the glass and press it into place. Then flip the surface over so that the contact paper is on top.

Next, take the towel and press the adhesive side of the contact paper down onto the glass while slowly peeling back the paper backing. Go in smooth strokes, pushing out any air bubbles a small section at a time.

Work slowly to push out all the bubbles so that the surface looks smooth. If any air bubbles do get trapped, you can pull the adhesive back and try to smooth it down again. If there are bubbles at the end, an easy fix is to poke them with a pin to release the air and then press the sticker down.

When the entire surface has been pressed down, flip the glass over. Then cut a square out of each corner and then press the contact paper over the edges.

on me: aritzia sunday best bradbury shirt, american apparel high-waist side zipper pants, fitbit flex

When then entire thing has been pressed onto the surface, place it back onto the table! It's that easy-- no mess, not fussy, and a total game changer.

under the table: alexander wang trifold bag (dyed black here), nike kaishi run, alexander wang kori boots, ikea samla box

I'm using the table as an entry way console table. Since I live in a really compact loft space, it's nice to have a station when you walk in the door to drop everything in your hands. The small "drawer" can hold some mail and the space below is perfect for some shoes and a recycle bin!

Now that you're in on the marble contact paper trick, what will you marbleize?

About half a year ago, during a full day meeting at work about corporate culture, we were asked a lot of personal questions about ourselves. In order to understand what was maybe holding us back from success, we needed to find out what held us back in our personal lives as well. (nb: Perhaps strange in a traditional workplace but not so much for a fashion/tech start-up.) This session was emotionally difficult but at the same time it was cathartic and there were a lot of revelations.

At the start of the day, we began with a question that was tough to answer, "What do you want to achieve in your life but haven't yet?" What was on my list?
- pay off my student debt
- get a dog
- get a tattoo

As inane as that list sounds-- those were my honest expectations of my life (I'm baring my soul here ok?) And then the question that followed was, "And what's your excuse?... Money or time are not allowed to be your answers." So I had no excuses. With my 30th birthday just months away, it seemed like the perfect timeline to just do it. Shit, I was finally going to be decisive about at least one of the above goals.

When I was younger, I was always intrigued with tattoos and piercings. As soon as I was legally allowed to get piercings without parental consent, I went out to get my first "bod mod" with a belly button ring. Piercings were always somewhat temporary compared to tattoos though-- they could always be taken out. If you stretched them, they could shrink back. That's why tattoos were always much more of a commitment and I had never had the nerve to take the leap.

THE EXPERIENCE
My friend M, recommended Ash Timlin at Imperial Tattoo (and now at Passage Tattoo)-- her portfolio was filled with animals, skeletons and botanicals in beautiful clean black and grey, so I knew that I wanted her to design my tattoo.

I asked for Passion flowers and asked her to design whatever she felt was right; any number or combination of flowers, buds, leaves and climbing vines. Her sketch was so gorgeous, I had no changes at all & wanted to go with it exactly.

the sketch & the tattooed outline

She told me that the size and placement of my first tattoo was definitely ambitious. And she was totally right because it was so incredibly painful being tattooed on my side. Strangely enough, it wasn't as bad on my ribs as it was on the small of my waist. That part really had me squirmy. It took a total of 3 hours on two separate sittings and I'm so happy that it healed so quickly for me.

I love my finished tattoo so much and I really owe it to Ash's amazing art and the beautiful placement. I'll save the story of why I chose passion flowers for another post because this is getting quite long.

Do you have any ink? What's the story of your first tattoo? I'd love to hear about it!
Today I was out helping some friends with a creative project-- modeling products for the first time in a while. More on the project later, but we were asked to just wear outfits that would work with some luxury products. It's been so long since I've really documented my style that I'm sure that it's completely transformed (as my hair does every year or so).

Since living in a small space in Toronto, I've really cut down my wardrobe and aspired for a more minimalist approach. When I moved from a large townhouse into a 600 sq. ft. condo, I actually threw out about 75% of my closet. There was so much extra bulk sitting around that I was drowning in it. I've had my time of experimenting with styles and I finally feel really comfortable in my more pared down closet, and as an adult who doesn't want to take things too seriously yet. So here's my take on the "Canadian tuxedo" on a "warm" November day (6C guys! Not bad!)
It's just so easy and satisfying! I have a particular obsession with tea lattes because there's just so many variations and options! I just love that fluffy cloud of frothy milk that sits on the top of my drink but I've felt like it's been lacking a bit of...decor. So today I'm going to show you how to make your own adorable latte sprinkles! Why do you need to DIY latte sprinkles? Simple. You cannot just throw full sized sprinkles on your lattes because it will fall right through your froth!

Here is what we're going to make; Toffee & Dark Chocolate sprinkles

My inspiration? I visited a DAVIDsTEA store and noticed these adorably packaged sprinkles and instantly wanted to make my own mix. They come in 75g bottles and cost $15.00 for 2 or $8.50 for one. They offer Chocolate Sugar Sprinkles as well as Golden Sugar Sprinkles (it grinds up gold flakes!). How do they work? Well, there's full-sized sprinkles in a grinder and it's as simple as that!
As you can see, I used a grinder that was prepackaged with peppercorn. It was cheaper than purchasing a grinder on its own. You just have to make sure that it has a removable lid. Step one, open the packaging of the pepper grinder then unscrew the lid.

Dump out contents, if applicable. If you are reusing a bottle - tap the lid to ensure there are no bits of salt or pepper left in the bottle. You may wash the bottle but you must make sure it is completely dry before refilling it.

For measurement purposes, fill half the bottle with dark chocolate chips.

Fill the rest of the bottle with toffee bits.

Pour the mix into your gravy boat and shake it around so that the bits are mixed well.

Pour the bits back into the grinder.

Peel off the original label. For best results, peel slowly and try not to rip the label.

Remove leftover glue with a piece of masking tape, if applicable.

Write on your adhesive label. I just went for "latte sprinkles" but you can be more creative.

Peel the sticker and place it on your new bottle of sprinkles.

Here you have it! A custom mix of sprinkles for yourself or your loved ones!

Your own mix of latte sprinkles!

Lets give it a try! Make a...boring latte.

Grind over your frothy milk.

Toffee & dark chocolate, it doesn't get better than this.

Your options are endless. Here's how to make a festive mix:

Here's what you will need:

-Small Grinder (must be refillable)
-2 Zip Lock Bags
-Dark Chocolate Chips
-Candy Cane
-Christmas Sprinkles
-Gravy Boat
-Masking Tape
-Pencil Crayon (or any writing utensil)
-Adhesive Label

*repeat steps mentioned above for emptying & labelling the grinder*

Place candy cane into zip lock back and use a solid object to crush the candy. Be careful if you choose to use the glass grinder as your hammer, like me. This can also get messy if your bag develops a hole. You may want to keep a vacuum handy.

Dump the candy cane bits into the grinder bottle.

Add Christmas Sprinkles to just over half way.

Top it off with the dark chocolate chips.

Pour all the sprinkles into your gravy boat and shake it up until everything is well mixed.

Pour the sprinkles back into the grinder bottle.

Here you have it! A holiday treat you can include in a latte themed gift basket!

Delicious festive sprinkles!

Time to test out your mix! Make a basic latte.

Grind over your frothy milk.

A festive touch to any latte! Not to mention peppermint flavouring from the candy cane bits!!

So as I mentioned above, these sprinkles retail for $8.50. Here's our cost breakdown:
Easy DIY tutorial!"/>

A white purse is a great accent accessory until it picks up stains from regular wear. I quickly learned this with my Alexander Wang SS13 Trifold bag in Glow-in-the-dark leather. It was such a novelty purchase that I thought would make sense but when it began picking up the deep indigo and black dyes from my clothes, I needed to do something. I decided to go all the way to the other end of the spectrum and dye the bag black, but as a DIYer, I wanted to try it myself. It was a huge risk, but turned out really well!

I figured since I was finally going to get back into blogging that I would try to record our first DIY video. It was something I was always nervous about delving into because it's completely out of my comfort zone... but I figured I would put myself out there and give it a try. I'm endlessly thankful for Sam's patience in helping me film this and even though it's not perfect, I think it's a decent start. Depending on how this is received, we might make video blogs a bit more regular... we'll see.

Watch the video below to follow along with how I dyed leather from white to black!

What you'll need:
- Something to cover your surface
- Fiebings Penetrating Leather Dye Kit
- Scotch Brite Scouring Pad
- Tarrago SelfShine Color Dye Kit
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Cotton Swabs

Instructions:
- Prepare the bag by disassembling straps and unfastening hardware.. Remove anything loose, unbuttons snaps and unzip the zippers so that you can reach every part that you would like to dye.
- Use Tarrago Preparer and the scouring pad to remove coatings, polishes and dirt. Scrub in a circular motion and don't miss scrubbing any part that will be dyed
- Use Fiebings Penetrating Dye and the included Dauber to paint the entire surface while still damp with preparer. Let the dye dry. It will dry a bit matte and streaky. Paint an optional second coat if any of the old leather color is showing through.
- Use Tarrago SelfShine Dye for painting on the finishing coat for a nicer shine. Brush onto all seams and cracks first. Then paint the dye onto the sponge to apply a thin coat onto the leather. Apply with the sponge in a circular motion. Let it dry for 5 hours.
- Use alcohol and cotton swabs to remove any dye from hardware
- You're all done!

My boss had an invite and took me along (thanks Jo!) to check out the event. Anyway, It's been forever since I've blogged but I've decided that I'd make my first comeback post a good one. I hope it lives up to my words...but I'm pretty excited about this project.

Most of my friends and family know that I'm a tea addict. I think there's also something that happens when Autumn rolls around, my obsession gets stronger. It must be that I feel the fall chill in the air and crave a warm drink in between my palms.

Maybe you understand how I feel? Do you start talking about tea and mention things that the average person cannot relate to? For me, my own sister doesn't get me...so I decided to make an awesome little handmade gift of tea for her to share my obsession. Then maybe by Christmas, she'll be hooked? One can hope so.

Today I'll be guiding you through the process of hand making a tea advent calendar

It's a cup of tea for 25 days counting down to Christmas!

Let's begin with discussing my inspiration:

24 days of tea from DAVIDsTEA: their yearly Advent Calendar that retails for $34.50.
I would say it's their most popular collection and usually sells out within a day of being released (both online and in-store). I was physically holding a box on the day it was released but I knew that my collection of teas was already too big. I've also tried the majority of the teas in the set already. So I talked myself out of it. Later that day, they were practically sold out everywhere. You can find yourself a set for about $70 - $100 on sites like eBay or Kijiji (a Canadian site like Craigslist)!

So why spend up to $100 on a box of 232 grams of tea when you can customize your own? I'm sure you or your giftee would much rather have a calendar that is filled with hand-picked flavours of tea. Plus, not only can you personalize the set to taste, you can customize it around allergies and dietary restrictions.

I think that's enough talking, how about we get started?

What you need:
-25 wooden Clothes Pins (plastic is fine too)
-Printed Napkins (or Wrapping Paper)
-1 sheet of Card Stock/thicker paper

-White String (25 pieces x 6 inches)
-Twine (approximately 40 inches)

-25 miniature Adhesive Labels
-25 miniature Zip Lock Bags
-Black Permanent Marker

-25 different types of Tea

-Gift Box or Bag
-Scrap Paper
-Scissors
-Stapler
-Ruler
-Pen
Optional:
-Chisel-Tipped Permanent Maker or Paint (Colour of your Choice)
-(Tag-Shaped) Paper Puncher
-Colourful Pens

Cut tags out of the card stock. I used a paper puncher and the size of the tag is 11/4" x 21/16". No need to purchase a tag puncher, unless you have one handy. This one cost me about $10 but you can be creative and cut tags of any shape or size!

Number the tags with your permanent marker from 1 - 25. You can even write "DAY __" rather than just a number.

Colour or paint your clothes pins. If you have plastic pins or like the pins the way they are, perfect! Skip this step.

Thread the twine through all 25 clothes pins. If you have difficulty; you can use a sewing needle to push the twine through the pins. If your twine is less rough, you may have issues with the pins sliding around. This would be a good time to tie little knots in between the pins.

Tie a loop on each end of the twine. This is so it can be hung on a wall, bulletin board or fireplace.

Take the white strings and staple them to the tags. Make sure that you position the string in the centre of the staple.

Take your scrap paper and trace around your mini zip lock bag while it's folded in half. Then add 1/8" to the sides of the box you traced and 1/2" - 1" on the top of the box. Make sure that there's enough room for you to fold the paper in half along the bottom of that box.

Cut out your pattern piece. It should look something like this.

Now comes the fun part. Pick 25 various teas. If you don't have 25, feel free to repeat the teas that you or your recipient would enjoy more! I used all loose-leaf teas but you can also use tea bags!

Write down the name of the tea, type of tea (I colour coded them), temperature of water, steeping time and caffeine level. No need for amount of tea because all teas will be pre-measured to one serving.

Stick all the labels onto the zip lock bags.

Scoop one serving (or more) into the designated baggy. I just measured out 1/2 a tablespoon which is equivalent to 1.5 teaspoons. This step can be messy so keep a vacuum handy!

Admire all your pretty little teas!

I got lucky with these napkins that I picked up. They just happened to be printed with 4 PERFECT sized segments! I didn't end up using the pattern that I made but this is the step to put that pretty little pattern to good use!

I folded the napkin right sides together and stapled it about 1 inch up. This step is only necessary if the bottom portion of your "tea bag" is open. In my case it was because of the way that the Santas & Snowmen were printed.

Flip the napkin right side out and staple one side of the napkin.

Insert your folded bag of tea into your "tea bag".

Staple the open side. You may do this more than once to keep the teas concealed.

Fold the top corners of the "tea bag" down. It should form a point at the centre.

Fold that point down.

Staple the other end of your white strings to the top of the "tea bag". Make sure all the folds and string are only visible from the back. Only a single staple should be visible from the front.

Clip your "tea bags" onto the clothes line by the tags.

This is optional but you can write up a cute little guide

All that tea...the thought of one steep a day is just fantastic.

These napkins are amazing. They resemble tea bags perfectly!
A steep a day. That is one December that they will never forget.

When I was making this tutorial, I found that there were so many variations and options I had. Please keep that in mind when making this lovely gift. I know some materials may be more difficult to find depending on your location but don't be discouraged or afraid to use your creativity! You can even include more than one serving per day!
After I completed this calendar, I found very useful alternative options like:
-A mini clothes line with pins (for cards) with Santa hats and numbers from 1-25 on them! (dollar store find)
-A wooden tree with 25 drawers in it! (a Target find)

Anyhow, let's talk about cost. Assuming that I didn't even have a single office supply - this project cost me a total of $28.91!! But really, $12.93 was the cost of materials.

Here's the breakdown:
Materials: $12.93
$0.50 - 25 miniature Adhesive Labels ($1 for 500)
$0.02 - 3.81m of White String ($0.50 for 100m)
$0.31 - 25 Miniature Zip Lock Bags ($1 for 80)
$0.06 - 1 sheet of Card Stock ($7 for 125)

$0.01 - 1.02m of Twine ($0.50 for 100m)

$9.38 - 62.5 grams of Tea (~$7.50 / 50g)
$0.42 - 25 Clothes Pins ($1 for 60)

$0.23 - 7 Napkins ($1 for 30)

FREE - Scrap Paper

$2 - Gift Tin

Supplies: $15.98
$1.00 - Chisel-Tipped Permanent Maker
$0.88 - Colourful Pens ($1 for 8)
$1.00 - Black Permanent Marker
$10.00 - Paper Tag Puncher
$0.10 - Pen ($1 for 10)

$1.00 - Scissors
$1.00 - Stapler
$1.00 - Ruler

It was my one and only must-have item from my wish list. In fact, I had convinced myself that even after waiting in line for 8 hours, if I had only picked up that top, I would be happy.

My picks from the collection were all revolving around wearability. I wanted items that fit well with my existing wardrobe and I didn't want to make any impulse buys. That said, I went back to H&M the following day and "accidentally" found a pair of the heeled zip up booties in my size. Oops... I just couldn't resist.

Here they are in action:
wearing: alexander wang x h&m elastic bustier, alexander wang x h&m boots, tna plaid shirt, talula mullaly high waist leggings, ub leather motojacket (similar here), alexander wang trifold bag

The elastic bustier wears like a sports bra. It's made from heavy elastic and it fits really small. Initially I had grabbed an XS and basically was stuck in it for about 5 minutes in he fitting room. If you're still considering buying this piece from somewhere it's probably smart to size up.

The booties are made from real leather, which is something I love about H&M's designer collections: they don't go absolutely cheap on the quality to keep prices low. They're a great height heel for me to wear everyday, so I'm thinking these were totally worth grabbing.
The hype is always insane and from a distance, I always recall seeing reports of people camping in the street then proceeding to trample each other to grab at their most coveted pieces. Yeah, no thanks... But this collection was the exception. As soon as I had heard the announcement from Coachella that the next one would be Alexander Wang, I had to figure out how to prepare myself.

My friend Jeannie has been to nearly every previous collection release and so I looked to her for advice. I quickly read her post on what to expect and I'm so glad she prepared me for what was to come. I think I had a successful haul so I wanted to share my experience. Read on to see what I learned from my experience lining up to shop the collection:

Book time off
Book the day off of work as soon as you know the release date. You will be exhausted from pulling an all-nighter and then the rush of adrenaline from the urgent shopping.

What to bring
November in Toronto is cold. Make sure to dress in warm layers, lots of knits and winter accessories. All of the Toronto locations require you to wait outdoors and overnight temperature dips can make the wait feel endless.

- a friend: people in line are great about holding your spot if you need to go find a washroom at a nearby gas station, but it helps pass the time to have someone there to talk to and remind you why the hell you subjected yourself to this unnecessary feat. I was going to go alone until I found out the day before that our friend Grana of LeGrana was going as well. Thank god for that.
- a folding chair: make yourself comfortable with something to sit on. It seems embarrassing but I saw some dudes who brought mini ikea poang chairs and I was so jealous.
- a warm blanket: it saved my life.
- a good thermos: so you'll have a hot drink to sip at all night.
- snacks: it's an overnight outdoor slumber party! You might as well snack
- entertainment: cards, books, iPads. You'll need them.
- a charger or external battery: your phone will die. Back it up with an external charger.
- a car: if at all possible, bring a friend with a car. You can take shifts in the car and it gives you a place to store all of your chairs and blankets before you go in to shop.

When to line up

As I learned, the first ones in line had arrived at 8am which was a full 24 hours ahead of the release time. The advantage of being amongst the first 10 in line this time around was an exclusive free gift. The gift was a great backpack chair but... Probably not worth 24 hours of time. The photo above was taken at around 6pm-- about 20 people were already in line.
I went home after work to have dinner, pack my bag and prepare myself to arrive at the store for midnight. At midnight, which was 8 hours before the release time, I was 94th in line. This will obviously be different based on location and how many other people decide to show up early. If I were to do it again, I'd still aim to go for midnight. 👌

The wait
The location where I lined up was Yorkdale Mall in the North York part of Toronto. This H&M is located inside the mall but you're not allowed to line up within the mall overnight. The wait is entirely outdoors until 5am when the mall reopens and the entire line is ushered indoors for the final 3 hours of the wait. A lot of people showed up at this time to wait so that they didn't have to be outdoors. Totally makes sense.

The wristbands

Coloured wristbands are handed out to people and they are numbered and have times on them. People are divided into groups of 30 and each group has a designated 10 minute slot to shop. At #94 I was at the front of the 4th group to shop. By the time we were shopping, we heard that the majority of the menswear was gone and I also heard that the shelves were pretty empty by 10.

The 10 minutes of shopping

You're let into the "ring" in order of your wristband number and are constantly instructed not to push or run. 10 minutes doesn't seem like it's a very long time but if you've had months to see the collection online and then a full night to reevaluate your wish list, you're bound to be familiar with every product and price. The staff are there to help you with sizes and to keep things in order and they also continue to tell you how much time you have left. I grabbed everything on my list, Sam's list and then some and finished in 8 minutes with hangers laced on all my fingers and my hands filled with random objects.

Trying
Once you have your loot, you're welcome to go to the fitting rooms and take your time trying it all on. This is highly advised because if things don't fit, the staff will switch a size for you... Provided that there are sizes left in the "ring" which you are not allowed to re enter. If you decide to leave anything in the fitting room, it's instantly off limits to everyone and will be put back into the ring.

Buying

Personally, I tried to restrain myself and stick with buying only the items from a very short wish list that I had mulled over for months. I grabbed everything my friends had wanted too and overall I was really happy with how our position in line allowed us to get our pick of everything in the sizes we needed. Go crazy if you want because there's a 7 day return policy.

Check back soon to see how we styled our picks from the collection!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09871381244030836317noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4412256753983582892.post-74273159445970334152014-02-10T15:38:00.000-05:002014-09-23T21:23:02.871-04:00Peter Pilotto for TargetSome of you may have spent yesterday morning in search for the Peter Pilotto line at Target. Well, that was our morning. I was out of town and visited a remote location around noon and was able to find tonsss of stock. I ended up visiting 4 Targets throughout the day to get some more preferable sizing. We ended up with 21 pieces! I would say that it was an incredibly successful day. We had nabbed a couple of things from the Philip Lim collection back in September but nothing to this extent.

Some of the pieces we grabbed:
Red Iris Print Jacquard Dress, Purple Floral Print Dress, Green Floral Print Belted Dress, Red Iris Print Romper, Black/White Print Bikini Crop Top, Black/White Print Skirt, Black/White Print Bikini Top, Black/White Print Bikini Bottom, Black/White Print Rash Guard, Red Floral Red Print/Lace Blouse, Red Floral Check/Print Skirt, Black/White Print Beach Tote

We also grabbed (not pictured) the Black/White Print Slip-On Shoe, Light Blue Floral/Check Print Pencil Skirt, Green Netting Print Beach Towel, Black/White Print Sunglasses

I'm so excited to wear all our new pieces! Were you able to grab any pieces at your local target?
So, the Greater Toronto Area was hit by a major ice storm yesterday. Some cities got it worst than others. My neighbourhood was hit pretty hard and here's the aftermath:

There's trees everywhere! The weight of the freezing rain was too much for the poor trees to handle. There's countless amounts of branches and whole trees that are just laying across roads, sidewalks cars, and even houses. I couldn't sleep last night because of the amount of trees that were constantly breaking and slamming to the ground. It was terrifying. There are approximately 250,000 households that are affected by power outages and some may not even have power restoration for another 72 hours.

Hope anyone that was affected by the storm or any sort of winter weather condition stays warm. It's slippery out there and there's still tons of branches falling from trees, so beware.

Drive carefully & stay safe! Today is going to be a long day full of ice scraping and chiselling...
This is my last Halloween manicure tutorial of the year. So I know that you are probably going to be munching on candies and chocolates no matter how old or young you are. What's more suitable than candy corn on your claws?

Here's the triple striped look we're going for.

What you'll need:
-Orange nail polish
-Yellow nail polish
-White nail polish
-Quick dry top coat
-Tape
-Scissors

Paint first coat of orange nail polish

Do a second coat when the first is completely dry

Cut a strip of tape that's about 1/3 of the length of your nail

Use the first piece of tape to measure the other pieces

Make sure that your nails are completely dry then stick the tape across the centre of your nail. Stick the tape on well to ensure that the colour doesn't bleed

Paint two coats of white nail polish

As well as two coats of yellow nail polish

When your nails are completely dry, peel off the tape carefully

Apply the quick dry top coat

Weeeeeee, candy fingers! Enjoy your treats, Happy Halloween!!

For that reason, I decided to make a tutorial for the opposite direction but with slime rather than blood.

Here's the look we're going for. Slime dripping from your cuticles...how attractive.

What you'll need:
-A baggy. Sandwich or zip lock - doesn't matter.
-Light green nail poish
-Neon green nail polish
-Thin paint brush
-Quick Dry Top Coat

Paint first coat of the light green base colour. When first coat is dry, apply second coat

Let base colour completely dry

Take the neon nail polish and dab a good amount onto the bag

With the thin paint brush, apply the second colour to your nail. You can start from the base of your nail and paint lines towards the tip of your nail. Vary the length of the drips

Paint a half moon shape at the base of your nail

You can also do it the other way around. Paint the half moon first...

...and then the drips

Dab some dots below the drips

You may allow the thickness of the nail polish can be inconsistent. It makes it look more...slime-like

When your nails are completely dry, apply the quick dry top coat

and that's how you paint slime dripping nails! Spoooooky

Happy Eve of Halloween!

Quite simple and you could fully mix-up the colour combinations!

Here's the look. Just black & white stripes.

What you'll need:
-Tape
-White Nail Polish
-Black Nail Polish
-Quick Dry Top Coat
-Scissors

Paint one coat of white nail polish. Do a second coat when the first coat is dry.

Cut thin strips of tape. It's all up to you whether you would like super thin or thick stripes. I opted for 5 stripes per nail which means two pieces of tape per finger.

I snipped the tape lengthwise rather than widthwise because the tape wasn't wide enough for my nails.

Ensure that your nails are completely dry otherwise the tape may damage your base colour.
Apply the tape to your nail and try to keep an even distance. With light pressure, rub the tape to remove air bubbles

Repeat on all fingers

Apply black nail polish between tape

When your black nail polish is dry, remove tape carefully

Repeat

If necessary, remove nail polish from skin

Apply quick dry top coat

Complete, pretty striped nails!

I can't stop. I don't want to...but after this Thursday...until next year! So I shall do as many as possible.

Here's the look we're going for. Frankenstein-ish with green and purple patched manicure with a stitching detail

What you will need:
-Green nail polish
-Purple nail polish
-Black nail polish
-Thin paint brush
-Quick dry top coat

Paint one thin coat of green nail polish on all nails except for your accent nail. Paint your second coat of green when the first is dry.

Paint one coat of purple nail polish on your accent nail. Paint your second coat of purple when the first is dry.

Let your base colours coat dry completely

Take your contrasting purple and paint your first thin coat of a somewhat of a french manicure tip but slanted! You might need two coats

Take your contrasting green and paint the first coat of your tip on your accent nail. You'll definitely need two coats since you're painting a lighter colour on a dark colour

When nails are dry - using your thin paint brush, pick up some black nail polish for the stitching detail

Paint a thin black line across line where your tip ends

Paint in tiny stitches. No need for uniform stitches just be random and throw in some crosses in there too

Apply top coat once your nails are dry

...and you're done! You've successfully sewn together a cute frankenstein manicure.

Samanthahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05086074369676690730noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4412256753983582892.post-74352894168342866412013-10-27T21:12:00.000-04:002013-11-01T12:07:15.467-04:00Tutorial - Mummy ManicureI was trying to think of yet another simple yet spooky manicure and here it is. A mummy manicure! You only need white & black nail polish with a top coat and the ability it draw somewhat straight lines (but it's not mandatory)

This is the look we're going for. Mummy wrapped nails!

What you'll need:
-White Nail Polish
-Black Nail Polish with thin brush OR use a thin paint brush with any Black Nail Polish
-Quick Dry Top Coat

Paint one coat of white nail polish. Do a second coat of white nail polish when first is dry. Don't worry if there's streaks with the natural colour of your nails showing through. It'll give the bandages less of a flat look

Base colour. Complete. Wait for them to dry completely

Now begin painting on your bandages with a thin brush

Don't be afraid to make the lines super random...because really mummies aren't perfectly wrapped

Continue painting lines.

There you have it. Some of the lines are thicker than others but that's okay - it doesn't have to be perfect.

After your nails are dry, apply your quick dry top coat.

There you have it! Creepy yet simple mummy nails!

Most of my Halloween decor lives on my shelves all year. This weekend I went shopping at Target and picked up a solid pile of items for 50% off! I can't even understand how I'm able to buy so many awesome items for such cheap prices a week before Halloween! I remember the days of waking up early on November 1st just to grab the 50% deals. I LOVE IT!

Anyways, I took out two massive boxes of my Halloween decor and I love rediscovering my goodies. For example...this glitter skull with my black purple glittered roses! This guy needs to be out on my shelf like asap.
