183: edgefest 2011

Those of you who know me or have been following me online know that I'm passionate about music & that my favourite band is Rise Against. This past weekend, they were in Toronto headlining at Edgefest & Sam & I each won a pair of tickets for the show! Lucky right?! I've lost count but I've been trying to go to almost every RA gig since about 2002 or 2003. So this might be my 10th time seeing them!

So this was our one summer music festival we would be heading to & we were hoping to make the most of it. We packed up our picnic blanket, bottles of water, snacks, & sunscreen and headed out to Downsview Park. We were ready for a pretty casual day of lounging & lots of overpriced beers.

The lineup?
MAIN STAGE
Rise Against
A Perfect Circle
Weakerthans
Tokyo Police Club
The Arkells
The Reason
Dinosaur Bones

SIDE STAGE
Hollerado
KO
The Sheepdogs
Monster Truck
Gentleman Husbands
Harlan Pepper
Michou
Mockingbird Wish me Luck
Sandman Viper Command
Red Bacteria Vaccuum
San Sebastien
Dirtymags

In terms of fashion, even though summer festival fashion is what's in right now, comfort still reigns supreme when you're spending a hot day in the sun walking around in a field. Sam just shared her outfit details in the previous post & both of us decided to wear our bikinis under our outfits & then just go with some simple denim cutoffs, reconstructed band tees & flats... but let's not forget accessories like big roomy purses, sunglasses & hats!

here's how not to dress for a hot summer day.

my girl sue! i'm her bridesmaid in october, yo!

our view of the stage from our blanket setup!
pretty decent & we had a great time dancing together, but then my friend Josh's sister managed to get us some All-Access passes just for Rise Against's set!!! So Sam & I ran to the side stage!

ALL ACCESS PASSES!! :)

& here we were at the side stage watching Rise Against play! We stood right alongside the security dudes at the front (in front of the barricades). We were off to the side though because I think only media could stand directly at the front.

Close enough though! Gah, kinda crappy photo though. I was concentrating on dancing. hahah

and then at the end of the set, we walked around behind the stage to see if we could find the guys...
We saw a group of dudes walking away from the stage pretty quickly so I called out to Tim & we ended up getting a handful of photos with them & also got to talk for a while. We were really the only ones who had found them so we were able to hang out for a bit... It was my third time meeting face to face with Tim & I mentioned remembering his roadie from waaaay back (almost 10 years ago) and he told me that I was a legit old fan... and then asked me how OLD I even was ahaha. I won't recap the whole convo, but he did tell me that he liked my shirt (made the other dudes check it out too!) & said that they would still play "like the angel" occaisionally on tour. I'll pretend it's just for me ;)

highlights if you love any of the bands:

It was the most amazing day for me & I was happy to hear that all my friends had a great time too! THIS IS WHY I LOVE SUMMER GUYS.

xoxo
