008: periwinkle

First of all, I'd like to preface this entry by saying that I like to think of myself as a decent driver and NOT a damsel in distress type. But today I had a pretty pathetic day.

Some of you may know, I work part time at Periwinkle Boutique in Bloor West Village. It's an adorable boutique of handmade goods that carries L&B's stuff and the work of many other awesome etsians. I play shopgirl there, mostly on weekends & love meeting all the fellow vendors that sell out of there.

Today was a pretty standard WAY snowy morning but I had to make it in to work. I rushed to get ready because I knew I'd have to warm up the car & brush off the snow. The drive to work was slow because the snowplows hadn't made it around all the major highways yet & the lines were all covered. It was also "white-out" conditions so it was tough to see more than a few metres in front of you at times. I cursed those who didn't have their lights on or hadn't brushed the snow off their cars & were relying on the "wind" to do it for them. Otherwise, everyone was driving cautiously and my drive to work was actually quite smooth & I was actually going to make it there early!

Then I got to the hilly side streets of Bloor West. I hadn't considered the fact that when I went super downhill, I would eventually have to go super uphill again & my little car had soooo much trouble climbing a hill. I backed up & tried a few times to go up this one hill but I kept spinning out my wheels, so I had my hazard lights on to let other cars pass me. At this point, I called Matt asking him to guide me through this idiotic procedure cause I was seriously struggling & soooo frustrated. Eventually I made it up this damn hill & parked my car & walked over to the shop.

At the shop, I realized we didn't have a shovel, so I had to use a BROOM to sweep the snow from the walkway. ahahah I felt like such an idiot. But it was a pretty good day in general & Matt came to visit in the morning.

2137 Bloor! pretty good snow sweeping job eh?

How cute is it that these social networks mail you stickers if you have a shop?! I want one!

ahem.. what I do when there are no customers. hahah

Our set-up at Periwinkle, which has been our home for 14 months now! We just pulled our stuff out though to refocus on our online sales, so expect photos of the merchandise in the store to show up on our etsy & webstore soon! Sad to leave, but it was a business decision :(

At the end of the night, as I walked back to my car, I noticed that my hazards were STILL flashing. Which meant they were on for a full 8 HOURS! I was praaaying that my battery wouldn't be dead... but of course it was. So I had to actually go knock on a strangers door & ask for a boost. Thankfully the man at the door was sooo nice about it & helped me boost my car. So it was a pretty... exciting(?) day for me & the car too. So if anyone feels like convincing me how ~pretty~ the snow is... I'll punch you in the face. just kidding. sort of.

kisses,

I'm such a summer soul-- I hardly own any warm clothes, my skin hates the dryness & it's not like I'm much of a skiier/snowboarder/skater. blaaaah. take me to oz ♥ haha

ahahaha, it's kinda funny that you & a couple other people thought the most stressful thing was knocking on a stranger's door! I've actually been a door-to-door salesman before (omg I have had every job EVER) so I didn't even think twice about the situation!

Yeah, totally still gonna work there. We've still got our stuff in the Forest Hill location... but it's so far, even I don't go there. ahhaha.
