001: new years resolutions

♥ HAPPY NEW YEAR, READERS! ♥
Hopefully everyone has looked back on 2010 with fond memories & not too many regrets. This past year, Sam & I worked on L&B as our fulltime job for an entire calendar year. Within 2010, we had our clothes in numerous shops (in 3 in Toronto & 1 in BC), did the Toronto Clothing Show in the Spring & Fall, won an international design contest for a web magazine, launched our own independent webstore, we photographed & released our first lookbook and had a celebrity wear our clothes on TV! While all those milestones were huge for us, it was also a challenging year for learning what works for our company and what doesn't. We're still trying to find our place in this confusing world of handmade fashion & are still on this endless process of trial & error.

I'm not a huge believer in the fact that new beginnings should start on an arbitrary calendar date, but I always feel like I should make an effort to resolve to make my new calendar year better than the last in some way. I mentioned this briefly a few posts back, but we decided that we wanted a blog-related resolution.

I've read that New Years resolutions are only ever successful if you create a quantitative goal for yourself. If you just say "I'm going to get in shape" instead of "I'm going to exercise at least twice a week for 30 minutes" then you're setting yourself up for failure. With that in mind, we decided that we would do a photo365 challenge & post AT LEAST a photo a day everyday this year to force us to continue to blog everyday even if it's just a single photo. We're aiming to do mainly outfit posts that showcase our personal fashion senses and then also our day-to-day activities & the usual posts about our fashion events etc. We hope that it keeps us active & that on lazier days, we can just do single photo posts & still not fail our resolution. To give us some leeway, I'm going to say straightup that we might have some days that we don't get a chance to actually blog our photos, but we will try to post those entries within the following days.

With today being the first day of the year, it's the beginning of our photo365, so here are our first outfits of the year (of the decade!!)

Sam & I had our own separate new years parties in different cities, but we reconvened at a family party in the afternoon in our new years dresses.

gross old pantyhose. what up.
pixie wedge booties by jeffrey cambell

I normally don't go for bold & punchy prints, especially in so many colours but notice the print on the dress-- the pansies have little skulls in the centres.

Well, I'm still unsure of how we'll be formatting our posts & how we'll tag them so they're organized, but there we go! Off to a good start, I'd say... 1 down & 364 to go :) See you TOMORROW!

  3. You both look so good!
I'm planning on taking daily photos of myself as well, though I won't be posting them online. I'm hoping to really step up my personal style this year (particularly at work, where I tend to be too casual :s), and think that documenting it will make me more accountable AND show me what isn't working.
    Fingers crossed it works!

  4. Thank you ladies! We're off to a very encouraged start because of your sweet comments :)

@Leja that's such a great idea! We're also hoping that full-body photos of our outfits will give us a better perspective of what is & isn't flattering on us! Best of luck on your style mission! It's going to be a really fun challenge :)
